Mindful Mosaic House Number

with Brigit McCallum

Apr

April 3rd to May 1st, 2023

$32 More Info

Create a stained-glass mosaic house number on a slate backing for yourself or a gift! This class is for newcomers and those more experienced with stained glass mosaic art alike. Each session will start with a centering activity to help participants be present to the experience. Basic skills will be taught or reviewed, and you will design and execute a house number using stained glass, exterior-grade tile or crockery that will be adhered to the slate using silicone glue and grout. Safety glasses must be worn by all while glass or tile is being cut. A surgical mask will be worn while working with grout in a powdered state. Participants must wear closed toe shoes. Materials fee: $20 payable to instructor first night of class. To see some of Brigit’s work, go to: www.brigitmccallum.com.

About Brigit: My mosaic art journey has many facets – a love of color and pattern, especially random suddenly coming-into-focus types that “just happen” and a love of making functional articles full of bling and pop! Some years ago, I moved from fracturing fabrics in contemporary quilting to a love of the scraps left behind by stained glass artists and I found a passion for taking shards and making new wholes. Just as life has a way of fracturing us humans and picking up and studying the pieces can be ways of finding whole new perspectives and directions, the same can be represented in combining multiple materials into new patterns and stories. While I also work in stone and tile, my main material is scrap stained glass, and using them all to tell stories of personal and communal life. Some of my work surrounds the entrance to the Waterboro Public Library, and adorns the shed at the Waterboro Community Garden. I share some of it also at www.brigitmccallum.com.
